Health careers beyond MBBS are many, and several need no NEET rank at all. NEET also leads to dentistry and AYUSH degrees, while nursing, pharmacy, allied health and audiology have their own entry rules.

Health beyond MBBS — frequently asked questions
What can I study through NEET other than MBBS?
NEET (UG) is also the entrance for BDS, BAMS, BSMS, BUMS and BHMS. Its results fill 15% of veterinary college seats too.
Can I do nursing without NEET?
The Indian Nursing Council says B.Sc. Nursing selection is on the merit of an entrance test run by the university or state government. NEET results are used for some courses, such as B.Sc. (Hons) Nursing.
Can a PCM student become a pharmacist?
Yes. The Pharmacy Council of India accepts Physics and Chemistry with either Mathematics or Biology for B.Pharm.
Can I take NEET if I studied PCM?
Not with PCM alone. NEET needs Biology or Biotechnology too, but its bulletin lets you complete these as additional subjects after Class 12.
How many MBBS seats does India have?
India had 1,28,875 MBBS seats in 2025-26, and 65,193 of them were in government colleges. A later government reply put the total at 1,39,864.
