Which stream after Class 10: PCM, PCB or PCMB?

Your stream after Class 10 is the choice that decides which entrance exams you can sit in Class 12. PCM keeps engineering open, PCB keeps NEET open, and PCMB keeps both open.

How to decide

Use what you already know about yourself, not one overall percentage.

Notice which Class 9 and 10 science chapters you enjoy: motion and electricity, or cells and heredity.
Look at your chapter-wise marks, not your total. A strong total can hide a weak subject.
If you are unsure, keeping Maths with Biology leaves both engineering and medicine open for longer.

Several popular beliefs about streams are only partly true.

Other science routes after Class 10

A Class 11 science stream is not the only science path after Class 10.

Choosing a stream — frequently asked questions

Can a PCB student do engineering?

Only in a few branches. AICTE lets Biology replace Mathematics in B.Tech Biotechnology, Agricultural Engineering and Pharmaceutical Engineering. NIT seats through JEE Main need Physics and Mathematics.

Can a PCM student take NEET later?

Not with PCM alone. NEET needs Biology or Biotechnology, but its bulletin allows these to be passed later as additional subjects from a recognised board.

Can I take Maths and Biology together in CBSE?

Yes. CBSE's list of subjects that cannot be taken together does not include Mathematics with Biology. It does bar Mathematics with Applied Mathematics.

What happens after a diploma?

Diploma holders can join the second year of a B.Tech through lateral entry. But a diploma after Class 10 makes you ineligible for CUET (ICAR-UG).

Do I need Maths to become an actuary?

ACET, the actuarial entrance run by the Institute of Actuaries of India, is open to students from any stream.
