NEET UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate)
NEET UG is India's one national entrance exam for undergraduate medical courses: MBBS, BDS and AYUSH. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is a single 720-mark paper, taken in one sitting. Biology alone carries 360 of those marks, so NEET is won by knowing NCERT well and getting Biology right.

Each correct answer gets +4, each wrong answer −1, and a blank gets 0. Since 2025 all 180 questions are compulsory. The old option to skip 15 questions per subject is gone, so you cannot avoid weak topics. You get about one minute per question. NEET rewards quick, sure recall, and the good sense to skip anything you are truly unsure of, because a wrong answer costs you a mark, while a blank costs nothing.
NEET syllabus & free chapter-wise practice
The NEET syllabus is the NCERT Class 11 and 12 syllabus for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Biology is close to 85–90% NCERT, so reading it line by line pays off. Biology
Half the exam: 90 questions, 360 marks. This is where your rank is decided. The most useful habit in all of NEET prep: learn NCERT Botany and Zoology line by line, and practise lots of MCQs on them.
Chemistry
For most students, the fastest section to score in. Physical is numerical, Inorganic is straight NCERT recall, and Organic is about reaction mechanisms. All three reward practice that stays close to NCERT.
Physics
The most feared section, and the one that separates the top ranks. Most questions ask you to apply concepts. Regular problem practice with a timer is the only sure fix.
How to prepare for NEET
NEET tests accuracy and recall, and it is built on NCERT. Most students lose rank not because they don't understand the theory. They lose it because they can't turn it into fast, correct answers against a timer. More practice fixes that. More lectures do not.
- Learn NCERT Biology line by line. Practise each chapter's MCQs the same day you finish it.
- Always practise with negative marking on. Learn when to skip and when to attempt, because each wrong answer costs you a mark.
- Keep a mistake list, one line per mistake, and read it again the same day. NEET mistakes keep coming back to a few common traps.
- From two months before the exam, take one full 180-question timed mock every week, at the same time as your real exam. Go through every mistake.
- In the last month, revise only from concept notes and past papers. Do not start anything new.

What is the NEET 2027 exam pattern?+
